7 Steps to Creating the Best Hair Extensions for Your Client

Finding the right hair extensions to create for your client can be a difficult task. There are so many different types of hair, textures and lengths that it’s hard to know what will work best! In this blog post we’ll discuss 7 steps you can take to find the perfect hair extension for each client.

best hair extensions

1. Determine what texture and length of hair you want to use

This step is super important. There are so many different types of extensions that it’s good to know exactly how much hair your client will need before purchasing. Also, knowing the type of extension (i.e., clip ins) beforehand helps with planning as well!

There are three main types: wefted, fusion or prebonded/tipped, and strand by strand. Wefts tend to be the most popular because they can create a full head quickly and easily and there is no damage done during application process like in fusion or tape in extensions . When deciding on which one I recommend going for wefts if possible! For those who don’t know these products, a weft is a strip of hair that has been sewn together to form an extremely long piece. The benefit to this method over others is because the extensions are woven in with your client’s natural hair they blend seamlessly and create less damage during application!

Fusion or prebonded/tipped products involve heating up keratin tipped pieces using either heat from a blow dryer or iron then gluing them into place on top of your clients existing hairs. Just like wefts these can be applied quickly but also cause high amounts of damage to the natural hair underneath! We recommend going for strand by strand if you have a client who wants length without damaging their own strands . These tiny strands come individually attached so there isn’t any damage to natural hair during application process. The look is also incredibly realistic and it grows out seamlessly, unlike fusion or prebonded products which need to be redone every three months!

Figuring the perfect hair length

The best place to start in determining the perfect length of hair is by figuring out how much you will need in total . You can do this by measuring your client’s head circumference then multiplying that number times either four (for a full set) or six (for just under half). For example someone with 22 inches around their head would want 110-120 pieces for a whole head while if they wanted 60 pieces it would go down the back only making them about 18 inches long. After these numbers are figured out its time for step two!

Finding extensions that match your client’s natural hair is also super important. Sometimes it can be hard to find the right shade or length but you don’t want to go too far outside of their color range because that will look unnatural and since wefts are sewn in this becomes even more difficult! If they’re looking for a full head then there usually isn’t any problem finding enough pieces with the same texture and color, however if its just under half or one quarter provided by strand by strand products then getting them all matching correctly become trickier .

extension type & length

2. Determine how much your client can spend

Once you’ve figured out the length and texture it’s time to decide what budget is needed. Extensions range greatly in price depending on type, quality of hair used and application process so its important to figure this one out first! For wefted products , prices start at $100 for a small set (around 20 pieces) but go up from there with more extensions added such as Fusion or Strand by Strand . We recommend going around $500-$600 initially if working with wefts so they aren’t surprised once their extension has been applied. This should be enough to create a full head that will last around three months before needing redone because these types tend not to shed like strand by strand!

3. Determine what texture is needed for the best match

Once you know how many extensions are going to be used and their budget it’s time to decide on a hair type. The most common options available at our studio  are Indian Remy, Malaysian Silky Straight , Brazilian Yaki or Chinese body wave . Our personal preference here depends mostly on which one matches closest with your client’s natural hair! This usually isn’t too hard since wefted products offer such variety but if they’re looking for strand by strand then getting all of them matching can sometimes be tricky so keep that in mind when deciding.

If this still feels like an overwhelming process don’t worry – Extensions Plus knows exactly what its doing will help you every step of the way! We’ve been doing this for over 15 years and created a foolproof method to make sure every client leaves happy ! In fact once you see how easy it is we guarantee that you’ll never want to go back or work with anyone else again.

– Once the length, texture and budget have been set its time for step four which is finding out what type of hair will be used in order to match your clients natural color as close as possible . Extensions Plus has many different types of extensions available on our website, all made from real human hair so they can look exactly like your clients own strand by strand products are great here because there isn’t any dyeing involved during application process so they blend seamlessly where people won’t even know they’re wearing them. Wefted products also work great for this as well but they tend to be a little more expensive and harder to style because of the large amount of hair needed.

4. Figure out the ideal curl pattern

Once everything is decided its time for step five which is figuring out what texture they want their extensions to have. This can be a little tricky because people tend not to know exactly what they mean when referring to different types of curls so we’ve put together an excerpt from our website with all them listed below in order from least curly (straight)  to most curvy (yaki)! Of course if you need any clarification there always available at Extensions Plus and happy answer any questions that might come up during consultation process!

Straight Hair: The straight textures are perfect for those who either aren’t looking into working with natural hair or just prefer smooth, silky strands over kinky ones . Malaysian Silky Straight : This texture is closest to Caucasian hair in its look and feel. It comes from Malaysian donors which are known for their thick, coarse strands that offer lots of volume when applied correctly . Indian Remy Straight : Here we use 100% premium remy human hair with the cuticle running in one direction instead of multiple directions like Chinese or Brazilian textures. The result is smooth, shiny extensions that retain moisture well and can be styled just like your clients natural strand by strand!

5. Pick the right amount of hair for your client

Once you know what type is best it’s time to choose which size or length will be needed. Extensions Plus offers many different sizes so its important that this step be taken seriously since wrong choice here can lead to having extensions last only a couple months instead of three! The most common options are medium (20 grams), large (22 – 24g ) and extra large (26+). Of course if they’re looking for thicker strands then more might need added but in general 20grams should work well on average head . Our website has full information about sizing listed below along with some additional tips!

extension installation

6. Figure out the ideal length for your client

Next it’s time to determine where you’ll be putting them in. If they’re looking into getting a sew in then Extensions Plus offers those as well and can do any type of installation including microlinks! Microlink extensions work great if you just want something that requires little maintenance or upkeep . On other hand sewing is much more secure but also takes longer because every individual strand must be sewn on by hand so keep this in mind when deciding which one will best suit their needs.

7. Determine what type of closure will be needed for your client

Time to figure out the final step which is finding a closure that matches their skin tone as close as possible. While most people don’t know this but it’s actually impossible to find an exact match unless they have African American heritage so Extensions Plus always suggests going one or two shades lighter than natural color . This also helps with blending process because if you put something too dark then there’s no way to see where weave begins and ends! By clicking on any product shown throughout article can take you directly over to our website where everything from closures, wefts , prebonded hair extensions , tape ins and more are available at lowest prices guaranteed ! There even links included in post above that will take you directly to each step!
